     Mamie R. Hammock was born March 6, 1944 in Polk County Georgia, to Percy and Mamie Hammock.  She attended Polk County schools and graduated from Cedar Hill High School in 1961.  After earning a nursing degree from Columbus Medical Center School of Nursing, she earned advanced degrees from the Medical College of Georgia and Georgia State University.

     Miss Hammock worked as a staff nurse at Polk General Hospital in Cedartown, Georgia.  She worked in mental health departments at Georgia Regional Hospitals in Augusta and Rome, Georgia.  She also was an instructor of Nursing at Floyd College in Rome, Georgia prior to working for the Polk School District as a Health Occupations Instructor.  Miss Hammock taught at Cedartown High School from September 1983 until her death on August 30, 1996.

     Miss Hammock was very active in church and community activities.  She was also a devoted mother.
